Canadian postseason games

Championship football games are usually held in a neutral location, usually a college or NFL stadium needed to accommodate larger crowds. University and professional fields as well are generally better equipped to deal with inclement weather, which is common, as state championship games are usually held in the late November to mid-December. The current record for the number of high school football state championships middle school is held by Washington High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, which is 35 in 2009. Some publications and internet sites publish national rankings based on in research or mathematical formulas that take into account various factors, such as average margin of victory and schedule strength.

Schools ending in top of these rankings, particularly the USA Today poll, are sometimes considered national champions. In Ontario, high schools play Bowl games similar to college football in the United States. The difference, however, is that these bowl games are determined by geographic location, in opposition to a team record. There are five bowl games for five different geographic regions; the Northern Bowl, the Golden Horseshoe Bowl, the National Capital Bowl, the Western Bowl and the Metro Bowl.
