A-Ma Temple

One of the oldest temples on the island, A-Ma is built in 1488 in honor of Matsu, the goddess of seafarers and fishermen. This interesting temple is a picture of Chinese culture influenced by Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism.

Sam Kai Vui Kun Temple

Sam Kai Vui Kun Temple is included in the UNESCO world heritage sites. This 1750 temple was originally built as a meeting place of Chinese tradesmen. It was also constructed in honor of Guan Yu, the god of martial arts and wealth. The temple has direct connection with well-established Chinese business organizations that are older than the city’s Chinese Chamber of Commerce.

Lin Kai Temple

This 17th century temple has an interesting façade adorned with exquisite granite cravings. Its roofs feature large Chinese lion statues as if guarding the sacred place. Lin Kai Temple’s main hall is dedicated to Ua Kuong, a dark-faced god believed to be the protector from fire. Another prominent feature is the 18 statues of goddesses with children.
